Thiruvananthapuram: Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has announced his decision to abstain from participating in the celebrations marking the trial run of a vessel at Vizhinjam Port, situated in his constituency of Thiruvananthapuram.
Tharoor cited unresolved grievances among residents as the primary reason for his absence. He expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress in addressing demands for compensation and rehabilitation raised by affected locals since the initial arrival of the port’s first cargo ship.
In his post on X, he highlighted concerns about the commitments made by the previous UDF (United Democratic Front) government not being honored by the current LDF (Left Democratic Front) government. He expressed a sincere hope that the pending issues and grievances of the local community would be effectively addressed before the Port starts its formal operations later this year.
