Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Faces Crisis as Governor Approves Prosecution in Land Scam Case

Date:

The Karnataka government is facing a crisis as Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has granted permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the land scam case related to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The court is expected to decide on whether to proceed with the trial against Siddaramaiah on the 21st. To defend him, senior advocates and Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal will arrive in Bengaluru on Monday.

The BJP has accused that corruption worth ₹10,000 crore has taken place. However, it was during the previous BJP government in 2021 that land was allocated to Siddaramaiah’s wife through questionable means. The BJP, which was aware of the irregularities, has now taken to the streets to politically benefit from the issue after it came to light due to the intervention of three social activists.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called a Congress legislative party meeting on the 22nd. In this meeting, Siddaramaiah will explain the allegations against him. Minister Priyank Kharge stated that the corruption of the previous BJP government would be brought to light and that within six months, half of the BJP leaders in the state might either end up in jail or be seeking bail. Minister B. Nagendra, who recently resigned over the misuse of funds related to the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Caste Corporation, is currently in judicial custody after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. With the Congress government’s reputation already tarnished due to this scandal, the situation has worsened with the Chief Minister himself now facing allegations in another corruption case.
