Kochi: Central Minister Suresh Gopi is to undergo a preliminary inquiry following an incident where he pushed away journalists seeking a response regarding allegations against actor Mukesh. The inquiry was directed based on a complaint filed by Congress leader Anil Akkara.
The police commissioner has instructed the Thrissur City Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to conduct the preliminary investigation. The decision on whether to file a case will be made after gathering statements from the complainant and the journalists involved.
On Tuesday, at Ramanilayam in Thrissur, Suresh Gopi reportedly pushed a journalist’s microphone away and continued to leave, stating that it was his right to avoid responding and that he was not in a position to comment.
Previously, Suresh Gopi had commented that the allegations against Mukesh were merely accusations and that the court would decide on the matter. He stated that the complaints are still in the form of allegations and that the court has both wisdom and reason. He added that if the government approaches the court, it will take up the case.
Suresh Gopi also harshly criticized the media, accusing them of sensationalism. He claimed that the media is distorting the issue to sensationalize it and exploiting the situation for financial gain. He stated that media coverage of sexual allegations against actors serves merely as fodder for the press and advised that any related issues should be directed to him only when he is outside the AMMA office.
