Central Government Approves Industrial Smart City in Palakkad

New Delhi: The central government has decided to establish an Industrial Smart City in Palakkad. After a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this decision. The government has approved the creation of 12 industrial cities across the country, and Palakkad in Pudussery will be one of them. The Palakkad Industrial Smart City will be developed as part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Program. It is expected to provide direct employment to 51,000 people. The industrial city will be established along the Kochi-Salem corridor with an investment of ₹3,806 crore. The Smart City will focus on manufacturing medical, chemical, non-metallic, mineral, rubber, plastic products, and items related to the healthcare sector.

Other Industrial Smart Cities

The central cabinet has approved the establishment of 12 industrial smart cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Program (NICDP), with an anticipated cost of ₹28,602 crore for the project. The scheme is planned across six major corridors spanning ten states.

The industrial cities will be set up in Khurpiya in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Sahrabad in Telangana, Orvakal in Andhra Pradesh, and Jodhpur-Pali. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the project is expected to create an investment potential of ₹1.52 lakh crore.
