Kannur: CPI(M) state committee member P. Jayarajan has stated that recruitment to ISIS is taking place from Kerala. He emphasized that political Islam is leading youth towards terrorism and mentioned that more details will be available in his upcoming book, “Muslim Politics and Political Islam,” which will be released next month.
Jayarajan noted that recruitment to ISIS has occurred from Kerala, and political Islam poses a significant problem. He pointed out that the radicalization of youth, including those from Kannur, is a serious issue. He also mentioned that the demolition of the Babri Masjid has instigated extremist views in some individuals. According to him, the recruitment for ISIS from Kerala is part of this trend.
He cited an incident in Kashmir’s Kupwara, where four young men from Kannur went and were killed in encounters, stating they died in confrontations with the Indian army. Jayarajan remarked that some individuals have been influenced by the message that one can live in a religious state. He highlighted that the ambition for power within Muslim organizations and opportunism have become influential forces. Sunni organizations have created some resistance to this trend; however, groups like Jamaat-e-Islami and the Popular Front have been inspirational for such individuals, he added.
