Chandigarh: Voting for the assembly elections in Haryana has wrapped up, and exit polls indicate that Congress is in a strong position. Multiple surveys suggest that Congress may secure a majority, while the BJP is projected to finish in a distant second place. As the state awaits official results, the political landscape appears to be shifting in favor of Congress, raising questions about the BJP’s hold on power in the region. As voting for the 90 assembly seats in Haryana concludes, all eyes are on the exit poll results. The exit poll results from NDTV suggest that the BJP, aiming for a hat trick, may face a tough challenge. Congress is projected to win between 49 and 61 seats in the state, while the BJP is expected to secure between 20 and 32 seats. As of the numbers available until 5 PM, Haryana recorded a voter turnout of 61%. Voting took place from 7 AM to 6 PM, with 1,031 candidates contesting in the elections. There were 20,632 polling booths set up for the voting process. The counting of votes is scheduled for Tuesday.
While the BJP fights to retain power in Haryana, Congress is confident that anti-incumbency sentiment will work in their favor. Youth protests and farmer unrest are seen as challenges for the BJP. Farmer organizations have carried out strong campaigns urging voters not to support the BJP. The opposition hopes that anger over the Agnipath scheme and the protests by wrestlers will reflect in the voting results. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat is contesting as a Congress candidate in Jhulana. After a month-long vigorous campaign, Haryana heads to the polls with over 2.03 million voters.
