India Expels Six Canadian Diplomats Amidst Ongoing Diplomatic Tensions Over Nijjar Murder Allegations

Date:

Delhi: In response to Canada’s allegation of the involvement of Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Verma and other diplomats in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, India has taken strict action by expelling six Canadian diplomats. This includes the acting high commissioner and the deputy high commissioner, who has been instructed to leave the country before 11:59 PM on Saturday. This move comes just hours after the recall of the Indian High Commissioner from Canada. Earlier, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner, Stuart Wheeler, to demand clarification on Canada’s actions. This was followed by India’s decision to recall its representative from Canada.

India has categorically rejected Canada’s allegations, criticizing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in strong terms. India asserted that the accusations are defamatory and part of Trudeau’s government’s political agenda focused on vote bank politics, as stated in a recent statement.

Last September, Justin Trudeau made these allegations, but despite India’s requests for evidence since then, the Canadian government has yet to share any evidence with the Indian government, according to the Ministry. It further stated that this is a deliberate strategy to defame India under the pretext of an investigation for political gains.
