Thiruvananthapuram: Sathyan Mokeri will contest as the Left candidate from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. The decision was made during the CPI State Council meeting held on Thursday. The Wayanad district committee had earlier recommended Sathyan Mokeri’s name.
Sathyan Mokeri, a member of the CPI National Council, has been elected as an MLA three times from the Nadapuram assembly constituency.
This will be Sathyan Mokeri’s first contest in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Annie Raja was the LDF candidate. Although former MLA E.S. Bijimol’s name was also in consideration, Mokeri’s name had the edge. Priyanka Gandhi has already been announced as the UDF candidate. The BJP candidate is yet to be announced, with names like State President K. Surendran and senior leader Shobha Surendran under consideration.
