Palakkad: P.V. Anwar MLA has placed conditions before the UDF, which is reaching out to retain him as an ally. He demands that the UDF withdraw its candidate, Ramya Haridas, in Chelakkara and support DMK candidate N.K. Sudheer instead. The UDF is expected to seek support in both Palakkad and Chelakkara, with Palakkad being crucial. In this context, Anwar is pushing for renewed support in Chelakkara.
Anwar ridiculed the UDF, stating that even UDF members have dismissed their own candidate in Chelakkara. He emphasized the need to stand united against the Pinarayi government, calling for resistance against both the RSS and Pinarayi.
UDF leaders are still engaged in discussions and are waiting for a favorable decision. Anwar pointed out that if the decision is delayed, the opportunity may be lost, recalling that there have been instances in the past where candidates were withdrawn for UDF’s decisions.
The UDF’s move aims to persuade P.V. Anwar, who has announced his candidates for the by-elections, to withdraw candidates in Palakkad and Chelakkara and support their candidates. This is when Anwar put forth his condition.
The UDF clarified that Ramya Haridas will not be withdrawn from Chelakkara. During discussions with P.V. Anwar, they requested the withdrawal of Haridas to support DMK’s candidate N.K. Sudheer. However, the UDF’s decision is that there is no need for consensus talks involving the withdrawal of candidates.
Candidates announced for both Palakkad and Chelakkara will contest as planned. The UDF leadership has stated that efforts to persuade Anwar will continue.
