Velikkakathu Shankaran Achuthanandan, known as V.S. Achuthanandan, was born on October 20, 1923, and has been celebrated with birthday wishes from many party workers and admirers.
Due to health issues, V.S. Achuthanandan rests completely at his son V.A. Arun Kumar’s Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram home. Doctors have advised strict restrictions on visitors to prevent infections. V.S. Achuthanandan is the country’s oldest communist leader and a founding leader of the CPI(M). He has held various positions, including Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Legislative Assembly member, Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, member of the CPI(M) Politburo, State Secretary, and editor of the Deshabhimani newspaper.
Born on October 20, 1923, as the son of Shankaran and Akkamma in Punnepru, Alappuzha, V.S. joined the State Congress in 1939 and became a member of the Communist Party at the age of 17 in 1940. He is recognized as a historic leader of the Punnapra-Vayalar struggle.
