New Delhi: Following corruption charges against Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, by a US court, the Kenyan government has withdrawn from contracts involving the Adani Group in various sectors. Kenyan President William Ruto issued an order to cancel the contracts with the Adani Group. One of the key agreements between Kenya and Adani was related to the management of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which included handing over control of the airport’s operations to the Adani Group. Additionally, the Adani Group had agreements with the Kenyan government in sectors such as transport, energy, and petroleum.
In an order issued on Thursday, President William Ruto instructed the ministers responsible for transport and energy to cancel all contracts related to Adani. Last month, the Adani Group signed a public-private partnership contract with Kenya worth 736 million dollars for the construction of electricity transmission lines.
The indictment against Gautam Adani was filed in a New York court. The case alleges that Adani bribed Indian government officials with approximately 265 million dollars to secure contracts related to a solar energy project expected to generate a 2 billion dollar profit over 20 years, including the development of India’s largest solar power plant.
