Renowned Writer Prof. Omchery N. N. Pillai (100) Passes Away

New Delhi: Famous writer Prof. Omchery N. N. Pillai (100) has passed away. He died on Friday afternoon at St. Stephen’s Hospital in Delhi, following age-related health issues.

Prof. Omchery N. N. Pillai was a significant contributor to Malayalam literature and the modern Malayalam theater movement. He arrived in Delhi in 1951 as an employee of All India Radio and remained an active presence among the Malayali community in Delhi for seven decades. He was the author of numerous works, including poetry, prose, and plays.

Born in 1924 in Vaikom Omchery, he came to Delhi as a staff member at All India Radio, starting his career in the Malayalam news department. Later, he took on the role of editor in the publications department. He was a recipient of the Central and Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards.

Born on February 1, 1924, in Vaikom Omchery, he was the son of Narayan Pillai and Pappikkuttiyamma. His wife was the late Leela Omchery, a writer and the sister of the musician Kamukara Purushothaman.
