India and China Agree to Intensify Efforts for Border Resolution at SCO Summit

Date:

New Delhi: At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the prolonged border standoff in eastern Ladakh. Both ministers acknowledged that the current situation is detrimental to bilateral interests and pledged to bolster diplomatic and military channels to achieve disengagement and restore peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Jaishankar also highlighted India’s support for China’s upcoming presidency of the SCO and emphasized mutual respect and sensitivity in international relations. He underscored the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity in connectivity projects, referencing concerns over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend the summit, which included participation from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The discussions reflect India’s proactive approach to resolving border tensions with China and its priorities in maintaining regional stability within the SCO framework.
