New Delhi: In light of the increasing number of fake bomb threats, the central government is considering making such threats a serious offense. Amendments to aviation regulations will be made after consultations with other ministries.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu stated that legal amendments to deal with bomb threats are under government consideration. When asked if there is a conspiracy behind the current threats, he said a comprehensive investigation will be conducted and, until then, there will be no comments on the matter.

Authorities are taking a firm stance on the need for stringent laws to counter threats, particularly those coming via social media, and to punish the culprits. Meanwhile, the central government recently replaced the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Vikram Dev Datt, the former DGCA Director, was appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Coal. The central government clarified that this change is part of the regular reassignment of officials. Datt assumed the position of Secretary at the Coal Ministry on Monday.
