Chief Minister’s Condolence Message
I express profound sorrow at the passing of Kaviyur Ponnamma, who secured a place in the hearts of the Malayalis through her maternal characters. Her extensive artistic life extended beyond cinema; she also made remarkable contributions to theater and television.
Kavyur Ponnamma’s artistic journey flourished and played a crucial role in the cultural advancement of Kerala, particularly through KPSA. She later worked with many prominent theater groups, portraying unforgettable characters in popular plays of that era, such as “Mooladhanam” and “Puthiya Akasam Puthiya Bhoomi.”
Soon after, she became an integral part of Malayalam cinema. She shone in films by esteemed directors, playing diverse characters. The mother roles she presented with dedication strengthened the emotional connection that Malayalis felt towards her. Kavyur Ponnamma received the state film award for Best Supporting Actress four times, marking a significant achievement in her acting career.
With the passing of Kavyur Ponnamma, who secured her own place in the history of Malayalam cinema and theater, a bright chapter has indeed closed. Through her characters, she will remain alive in the hearts of Malayalis. I express my condolences on the demise of Kavyur Ponnamma and share in the grief of her family and friends.
