Kochi: Beloved Malayalam actress Kaviyur Ponnamma (79) has passed away. She had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kochi for age-related ailments for the past few days.
She was born on September 10, 1945, in Kaviyur, Pathanamthitta district. She entered the film industry through theater. Her first film was “Sreerama Pattabhishekam,” released in 1962. The last role she played was in the 2021 film “Aanum Pennum.” She received numerous awards, including the state film award for Best Supporting Actress four times.
Her late husband was the director Maniswami. She is survived by her only daughter, Bindu, who resides in America, and her son-in-law, Venkittaraman (from the University of Michigan).
