Chennai: The waves of the Hema Committee revelations and the push for women’s advancement in Malayalam cinema are spreading to Tamil Nadu as well. Veteran Tamil actress and serial producer Kuttipathmini has come forward with an open statement. She revealed that women in Tamil television serials endure a lot of hardships to stay in the industry, and many who couldn’t bear it have resorted to suicide.

“In the current scenario, directors, technicians, and others often present sexual demands and conditions to actresses. This has become almost normal. Acting is a profession like any other, such as doctors, lawyers, or IT professionals. So how has this field become associated with exploitation?” Kuttipathmini questioned.

She shared a troubling experience from her childhood when she was a child actress in Hindi cinema. When she spoke out about it, she was removed from the film. Her departure from the industry was triggered after her mother exposed the issue.

Many women refrain from reporting sexual harassment due to the struggles of exposing such issues. The industry environment favors those willing to endure everything, often providing significant financial gains to those who comply.
