Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam film actor Indrans (K. Surendran) is pursuing an educational milestone by taking the Seventh Standard equivalency examination of Kerala State Literacy Mission. He wrote the Language part exams on Saturday and will take the Science and Social Sciences papers Today.
The 68-year-old actor, who had studied only until the 4th standard, took the test at the Central High School, Attakulangara, where his roll number, 484309, was assigned. The equivalency exam comprised three language papers: English, Malayalam, and Hindi, starting at 9:30 AM and concluding at 4:30 PM.
“I’m scared. I will write and see. What can I do in the middle of the shooting? I got only a short break to study. It was my family who taught me. The equivalence classes were held at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College High School,” Indians told reporters before entering the exam hall.
The inspiring aspect of his journey is that even at 68, he has not given up on his academic aspirations. Despite having to stop his education due to financial hardship, he is resuming his studies from where he left off. His next educational goal is to pass the 10th standard equivalency exam. Once he achieves this cherished dream, he could be considered an ambassador for the Kerala Literacy Mission.
After 4th standard, he was compelled to discontinue his studies at a young age due to various deprivations. Later, to make a living, he took shelter in his uncle’s tailoring shop as a tailor. From there, he made his fortune as a costume designer in the Malayalam film industry, which later paved the way for him to become an actor. Now an acclaimed and essential actor in Malayalam cinema, he has bagged awards, including the National Award, for his exceptional performances
The exam results will be published within two weeks. If he passes the 7th standard equivalency exam, he can then pursue the 10th standard equivalency exam.
The actor, who appeared for the exam, was questioned by the media about the Justice Hema Committee report and allegations of sexual harassment against Bengali actor Ranjith, the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.
Indrans attempted to downplay the severity of these issues, stating that people can say what they want about the Chief Minister or Prime Minister, which would be like wildfire. “I’m not aware of any details,” Indrans said regarding the allegations against Ranjith.
He expressed confidence that these issues would not harm the Malayalam film industry or anyone else and stated that the LDF government would take appropriate action if anyone is found guilty.
