New Delhi: Veteran Bollywood actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of his significant contributions to Indian cinema. The award will be presented to him on October 8 during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony.
“I feel immensely proud. My father is a self-made superstar and a great citizen. His life journey is an inspiration for millions. We are all thrilled with this great honor,” said Mithun Chakraborty’s son, Namashi Chakraborty, expressing joy over his father’s receipt of the award to Indian Express.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mithun Chakraborty on receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. “I am delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty has been awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, celebrated for his diverse performances across generations. Best wishes and congratulations to him.” This year, Mithun Chakraborty was also nominated for the Padma Bhushan award. Previously a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, he is currently aligned with the BJP.
Known for his histrionics and dancing skills, Mithun Chakraborty shone as a superstar in the ’80s and ’90s. However, in recent years, he has been more visible in supporting roles. Some of his popular films include Disco Dancer, Mrigaya, Gudiya, Guru, and Oh My God.
