“Protests Intensify Against Film Academy Chairman Ranjith Following Actress Sreelekha Mitra’s Allegations

Date:

Kochi: Following the allegations made by Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra, protests against Film Academy Chairman Ranjith are intensifying. With both opposition and government-affiliated organizations calling for Ranjith’s resignation, the government is now on the defensive. There are differing opinions among ministers regarding action against Ranjith. Cultural Minister Saji Cherian stated that a formal written complaint is required to take action against Ranjith. However, Ministers Veena George and J. Bindu have come out in support of action against him. “When a woman makes such allegations, the actual situation must be understood before taking further steps,” Minister Bindu said. “If the actress has filed a complaint, the government will provide full support,” Minister Veena George added. The Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, P. Sathi Devi, also called for a thorough investigation into the allegations.

As protests grew stronger, Minister Saji Cherian changed his stance and stated, “The government will not protect anyone who is at fault. If the allegations against Film Academy Chairman Ranjith are proven, action will be taken,” the Minister wrote on Facebook.

However, Ranjith has not yet responded to the protests. Currently, at his home in Wayanad, he has not commented to the media. Earlier, Ranjith had denied Sreelakha Mitra’s allegations, saying, “Sreelakha Mitra came for an audition for ‘Paleri Manikyam,’ but she was not considered suitable for the role.” Meanwhile, actress Sreelakha Mitra reaffirmed her stance on the allegations on Saturday.
