New Delhi: Following the release of the Hema Committee report, writer and columnist Shobha De has sharply criticized Mohanlal, who resigned as the president of the Malayalam cinema actors’ organization AMMA and dissolved the governing committee. Shobha De urged that individuals like Mohanlal be asked to take responsibility for the remarks made in the Hema Committee report and provide proper guidance and assistance to the survivors.
Unfortunately, no action has been taken on the Hema Committee report for years. Shobha De mentioned that changes in the Malayalam film industry began only after a group of women protested in 2017.
In 2017, there was an incident of sexual assault involving a Malayalam actress. However, this is not a problem exclusive to Malayalam cinema. Women face issues across various film industries in India, including Bollywood, Bengali cinema, and Kannada cinema, she added.
With serious allegations that the Malayalam film industry is controlled by 15 to 20 celebrities, she emphasized that good leadership should be aligned with justice. Shobha De pointed out that the AMMA leadership should have taken action against those committing violations against women.
