T.P. Madhavan, Renowned Malayalam Film Actor, Passes Away at 88

Kollam: Famous film actor T.P. Madhavan has passed away. He died at a private hospital in Kollam after undergoing abdominal surgery the previous day. Due to his deteriorating health, he was on a ventilator at the time of his death. His funeral will take place tomorrow evening at Shanthikavadam, Thiruvananthapuram. He was 88 years old. T.P. Madhavan was known for portraying notable characters in numerous films and television serials. He became an active presence in Malayalam cinema with the film “Raagam,” released in 1975. T.P. Madhavan was born on November 7, 1935, as the eldest son of N.P. Pillai and Saraswathi in Thiruvananthapuram. He had siblings named Narayanan and Radhamani. From his school days, he was a regular presence in theater and acting.

He gained recognition in many blockbuster films including “Sandesham,” “Vietnam Colony,” “Pappayude Swantham Appoos’, “Kalyanaraman,” ‘Yathrakkarude Sradhaykku,” “Thandavam,” “Narasimham,” and “Pulival Kalyanam.” Due to health issues, he retired from acting in 2016. Since then, he has been living a quiet life at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram. family, including his children, did not come to provide support.

He completed his M.A. from Agra University and worked briefly as a journalist in Kolkata before leaving journalism to work in an advertising company. His connection with famous film actor Madhu led him to the film industry. On the set of the film “Akkaldama,” he acted in a small role at Madhu’s encouragement. After that, he moved to Madras for film acting and subsequently separated from his wife. He is the father of Bollywood director Raja Krishna Menon and Devika.

Following the success of “Raagam” in 1975, numerous roles came his way. He began with villainous roles and later showcased his talent in comedy and character roles. T.P. Madhavan acted in over 600 films in Malayalam and was also an active presence in television serials.
