Bhuvaneswar: The cyclone Dana hits the coast of bay of Bengal triggering massive amount of rainfall in southern Odisha & West Bengal.Winds are blowing at high speed uprooting trees. On Thursday night, a devastating cyclone struck the coastal districts of Odisha, causing significant damage. The wind speed exceeded 110 km/h. This has led to heavy rainfall and strong winds across the region, affecting parts of West Bengal as well.
The Central Meteorological Department has indicated that the landfall process, which began after midnight, is likely to continue until Friday morning. The cyclone is situated 20 kilometers north of the Dhamra district and is expected to move westward through Odisha. It is anticipated that it will weaken into a depression before noon, and officials state that it will not enter West Bengal as a strong cyclone.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall have caused destruction in several areas, including Vansab, Bhadrak, and Dhamra, resulting in fallen trees and damage to buildings.
Dr.Satyajit Naik, DIG Eastern Range, Balasore, briefed media on Cyclone “Dana” preparedness. Relief efforts are in full swing as the Odisha government has deployed the NDRF, ODRAF, and Fire Services for evacuation and rescue operations, prioritizing zero casualties. Dr. Naik emphasized the readiness of teams to respond effectively to the situation.
