Malappuram: The health department has confirmed a case of M-pox in the state involving a 38-year-old man from Edavanna, Malappuram, who had returned from the UAE and was undergoing treatment for symptoms. He is currently receiving care at the Malappuram Medical College Hospital.
The patient sought treatment upon experiencing a fever right after arriving from Dubai. After exhibiting symptoms of M-pox, he was admitted to the Malappuram Medical College Hospital. The health department has advised that the patient’s family members remain in quarantine. The health department is also urgently working on preparing a route map for the infected individual.
Following the confirmation of M-pox, the health department has initiated strict vigilance in the state. Health Minister Veena George stated that anyone arriving in the state from other countries who exhibits symptoms should seek immediate medical attention and inform the health department.
The health minister also mentioned that treatment and isolation facilities for M-pox have been set up in fourteen districts across the state. Phone numbers for nodal officers have been published by the health department, and treatment facilities have been established in all medical colleges.
Facilities are available at the government hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and the district hospital in Kollam. In Pathanamthitta district, treatment is available at the Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital and the Pala Government Hospital in Kottayam. Facilities also exist at Idukki District Hospital, Alappuzha Medical College, Ernakulam Medical College, and Aluva District Hospital.
In Thrissur, treatment facilities are available at the North Kanchery District Hospital, Palakkad District Hospital, Malappuram Medical College, Kozhikode Medical College, Mananthavady District Hospital, Kannur Medical College, and Kasaragod District Hospital.
