Petition Seeks CBI Probe into Sexual Misconduct in Film Industry

Date:

Kochi: A petition has been filed in the High Court demanding a CBI investigation into sexual misconduct in the film industry. The main request in the public interest petition is for a further inquiry into the Hema Committee report. The petitioners, including lawyers Jannath and others, have pointed out that despite witnesses having given statements about sexual misconduct, including rape, to the Hema Committee, the government has yet to initiate an investigation. The petitioners have highlighted that there is a legal obligation to inform the concerned parties and to take action if sexual misconduct is exposed, but no action has been taken on the Hema Committee report thus far. The petitioners have also demanded that the government be directed to create a special law for the safety of women in the film industry. The court will consider the petition tomorrow.
