Lucknow: Former BJP MP Maneka Gandhi has filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, challenging the election of Samajwadi Party MP Rambhual Nishad. Gandhi alleges that Nishad did not fully disclose all pending criminal cases against him when filing his nomination papers for the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Gandhi’s petition claims that Nishad only reported eight out of twelve criminal cases in his election affidavit and failed to disclose four pending charge sheets. According to Gandhi’s counsel, Prashant Singh, Nishad’s affidavit was incomplete, as it omitted details about four charge-sheeted cases.
Maneka Gandhi appeared personally before the high court registrar on Saturday to file the petition. Nishad had defeated Gandhi by a margin of 43,174 votes in the Sultanpur constituency, securing 4,44,330 votes compared to Gandhi’s 4,01,156 votes.
