Six Arrested in Connection with Deadly Stampede; The Godman is in Exile

Date:

New Delhi: In Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, authorities have made arrests following a tragic stampede that claimed 121 lives during a religious gathering. Six individuals, including two women, identified as volunteers of local preacher Suraj Pal, have been apprehended.

The main accused, identified as “Mukhya sevadar” Devprakash Madhukar, is currently evading arrest, with a reward of Rs 1 lakh announced for information leading to his capture.

Suraj Pal, also known as ‘Bhole Baba’, who conducted the satsang where 121 people tragically lost their lives, is reportedly in exile. Despite his central role in the religious gathering, Suraj Pal has not been named in the FIR filed by authorities.

The incident has raised questions about crowd management and safety measures at such events, prompting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the deadly stampede. The FIR has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence).
