Terror Attack in Kathua in Jammu Claims Lives of Five Soldiers

Date:

New Delhi: A tragic terror attack targeted an Army convoy in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the death of five soldiers and injuries to five others. The incident occurred around 3:10 pm on Monday at a bridge over a nullah in the remote Badnota village.

According to sources, a group of militants launched the attack by hurling a grenade at one of the convoy vehicles, followed by gunfire directed at the soldiers. In response, the Army engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with the militants, who fled into nearby forested areas.

The area, situated at the inter-formation boundary between Northern and Western Command, had seen an increase in militant activities in recent months. Security forces had deployed additional troops in response to earlier reports of militant movements and successful infiltrations in the region.

Reinforcements were swiftly dispatched to the scene, and Para (Special Forces) personnel were scheduled to join the ongoing operation on Tuesday. The incident has prompted a joint effort by police and paramilitary forces to secure the area and apprehend the perpetrators.

Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed condolences for the fallen soldiers and reassured the public of continued operations to maintain peace and stability in the region. The attack comes amidst a series of recent militant incidents in Kathua and adjoining districts, highlighting persistent security challenges in the area.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as efforts intensify to restore security in the affected area and prevent further escalation of violence.
