Meppadi: On Monday, a mass burial took place for twenty-seven unidentified bodies and 154 body parts of victims from the devastating July 30 landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai. The burial, conducted at a cemetery set up in the Harrisons Malayalam plantation, followed an interfaith prayer service. Earlier, eight unidentified bodies were interred on Sunday evening.
Among the bodies buried on Monday afternoon, fourteen were women. The ceremony was attended by politicians, ministers, and government officials who paid their respects. On the seventh day following the disaster, six additional bodies were recovered, including five from Wayanad and one from the Chaliyar river in Nilambur, bringing the official death toll to 226.
