Chief Secretary Recommends Action Against K. Gopalakrishnan in Mallu Hindu WhatsApp Group Controversy

Date:

Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief Secretary’s explanation provided by K. Gopalakrishnan, IAS, regarding the Mallu Hindu WhatsApp group controversy has been deemed unsatisfactory. It is reported that a recommendation for action against K. Gopalakrishnan has been made. Chief Secretary Sharada Muraleedharan has recommended appropriate action, as per the report. The police report submitted to the Chief Secretary stated that Gopalakrishnan’s activities in the IAS were suspicious.

In the Mallu Hindu WhatsApp group controversy, Gopalakrishnan claimed that his phone had been hacked. However, the police report states that no evidence of hacking was found. Given the current situation, it seems likely that government action may be taken against Gopalakrishnan.

Recently, it came to light that a ‘Hindu WhatsApp group’ involving senior IAS officers in the state existed. Gopalakrishnan was the administrator of the group called “Mallu Hindu Officers.” Following the controversy, Gopalakrishnan explained that his phone had been hacked and that the incident was part of the hack. Subsequently, another WhatsApp group titled “Mallu Muslim” was found to have Gopalakrishnan as the admin.

At the same time, Google and Meta informed the police that no hacking had occurred. The police report also mentioned that the phone had been formatted several times before it was handed over to the police.
