Thiruvananthapuram: 5 More Cases Of Cholera Confirmed In Kerala; State Health Dept Strengthens Precautionary & Preventive Measures To Contain Spread

Thiruvananthapuram:: The State Health Department, Kerala, confirmed five more cases of cholera in Thiruvananthapuram last day, reaffirming the cases tally to seven. The Health Dept has taken drastic precautionary and preventive measures to contain the spread, it said.

Cholera was confirmed in inmates of the special school hostel at Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram. Currently, more individuals are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital with symptoms of the disease. The State Health Department had formed a rapid response team to investigate the causes of the outbreak and to develop a strategy to shield its spread.

Given this, the hostel has been temporarily closed, and the authorities are keenly monitoring the situation. The health department has opened isolation wards at nearby Iranimuttom Community Health Centre. Various sources, including drinking and other water body samples, are being tested to find the other source of origin of the outbreak. Close surveillance of all those who came in contact with the disease is being done.
