Congress Divided Over CMDRF Donations; Sudhakaran Criticizes Chennithala

Date:

Thiruvananthapuram: Serious differences have emerged within the Congress party regarding donations to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) for Wayanad relief efforts. KPCC President K. Sudhakaran sharply criticized Ramesh Chennithala’s announcement to donate his one month’s salary to the CMDRF.

KPCC President K. Sudhakaran criticized Ramesh Chennithala’s decision to donate to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. He stated that Ramesh Chennithala’s action was inappropriate and that there was no need to give the monthly salary to the leftist government. He mentioned that no one had asked to donate to the government and that all components of the party had already initiated a relief fund. Sudhakaran urged that Ramesh Chennithala should also contribute through that means. Ramesh Chennithala, a member of the Congress Working Committee, had announced that he would donate one month’s salary as an MLA to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. He shared in a social media post that the plight of the disaster-stricken Wayanad has deeply saddened everyone and that we should all support our fellow beings as much as we can. He said he would donate one month’s salary as an MLA to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Meanwhile, opposition leader V.D. Satheesan accused the BJP of politicizing the Wayanad landslide disaster. He stated that this was not the time to politicize the disaster and questioned why the central government had not declared the Wayanad disaster as a national disaster. He mentioned that MPs were pressing for this declaration in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
