Thrissur: K.K. Hiranyan (70), a Poet, literary critic, and teacher passed away on Wednesday. He has been under treatment for a long period at a private hospital in Thrissur where he breathed his last. His wife was the writer late Geetha Hiranyan.
His journey as a writer began writing poems while pursuing college studies. He was selected as one of the most versatile writers at the University level by Mathrubhumi Weekly in 1979.
During the emergency period in 1975, he was elected as the student editor at Kerala Varma College in Thrissur as an SFI candidate, marking SFI’s first victory in the college.
He taught Malayalam at various colleges in Kerala. He retired as the Principal of Government College, Thrissur.
His versatility spread across as a poet, literature critic, and a scholar of critic of the history of literature, besides being a voracious reader and an orator.
He is survived by his children Uma and Anand.
The funeral was held at his house, at Ammadom after his mortal remains were kept in state in Sahithya Academy.
