Alappuzha: In the 70th Nehru Trophy Boat Race, the Karichal Chundan of the Pallathuruthy Boat Club emerged victorious. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Karichal has claimed the coveted trophy. In a fiercely contested race, Karichal Chundan secured first place with a photo finish, cutting through the waves of Punnamada. The VBC Kainakari Boat Club’s Veeyapuram Chundan came in second, while the Town Boat Club’s Nadubhagom Chundan finished third. The Niranam Boat Club’s Niranam Chundan placed fourth. Karichal finished in 4 minutes and 14.35 seconds, while Veeyapuram took second place at 4:22.58, just microseconds apart.
The preliminary competition consisted of five heats, with final berths determined based on the best times.
