Malappuram: P.V. Anwar MLA has released evidence suggesting that the police are smuggling seized foreign gold. He also shared a video revealing statements from two individuals related to gold smuggling. Anwar alleged that 900 grams of gold were seized from a young man returning from abroad in 2023 and that it had decreased to 542 grams when handed over to customs. “The gold smugglers were scanned at the hospital in Pulikkal. The scanning was to confirm whether gold was present. The investigation team should examine the scanning report; it will reveal that there were indeed 900 grams. The police seized the gold without any documentation,” P.V. Anwar said.
“Customs are the informants in the gold smuggling cases. It is customs that detect gold hidden on travelers’ bodies and in their bags through scanning. They can see this but do not seize it. Customs pass information to Sujith Das and the police team outside. When customs seize gold, their ability to carry out a cover-up is limited. If the police seize it after customs have let it go, most of it can be smuggled out,” Anwar explained.
He challenged the Chief Minister to investigate the allegations in the presence of a High Court judge. “The police are involved in gold smuggling. I am challenging the Chief Minister. Is the Chief Minister ready to investigate the 188 cases I allege involve gold smuggling through Karipur Airport, with honest police officials in the presence of a High Court judge?
The Chief Minister and the party should check whether they have reached a state where they need to read the warrant that the DGP brings. They must investigate how many kilos of gold SP Sujith Das, DGP Ajith Kumar, and P. Shashi have jointly stolen. I want to know if the Chief Minister is prepared for that,” P.V. Anwar stated at the press conference.
