Kochi: The Kerala High Court has permitted small vehicles, including cars, to park at Pamba during the Mandala-Makaravilakku season. This permission covers parking at the hilltop and on both sides of the Chakkupalam. The order came after the Thiruvananthapuram Devaswom Board submitted a petition, and the Devaswom Bench passed the ruling.
Since 2018, small vehicles have not been allowed to enter Pamba during the season. The new decision allows vehicles to park at Pamba for 24 hours. However, the permission is temporary, and the court has stated that additional restrictions may be imposed if traffic congestion or other issues arise.
During the previous Sabarimala season, the parking grounds at Nilakkal were filled on peak days, causing significant problems. Various restrictions had to be implemented in multiple areas. The ban on parking at Pamba was introduced after the devastating floods of 2018.
