Kalpetta: The search operations will continue on Sunday in Mundakkayam and Chooralmala, where the landslide has caused widespread devastation. There are still 126 people missing from the disaster. The search will focus on six zones, including Mundakkayam and Chooralmala, on Sunday. Volunteers from relief camps will also be included in the search. Local representatives and volunteers will participate as well.

Entry to the search area on Sunday will be restricted to those who are registered by 9 a.m., a measure taken for the safety of the search participants. The army will be deployed to search the lower areas of the river on Sunday. Earlier, three bodies found in the Soochimala area were airlifted to Meppadi on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the state looked forward to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Saturday with great anticipation and hope. The Prime Minister assured that Kerala is not alone and that the country stands with it. He instructed the state to submit a detailed memorandum outlining the damage from the landslide, including the number of houses destroyed, the extent of the damage, and the plans for the rehabilitation of the affected people. This memorandum is a prerequisite for any aid announcements. The Prime Minister assured on Saturday that financial constraints would not be a barrier and that aid would be provided.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested the Prime Minister to consider the landslide in Wayanad as a national disaster and to provide a special package. A five-member expert team will visit areas including Chooralmala, Mundakkayam, and Punchirimattam. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring educational facilities for children during the review meeting with the Prime Minister, according to the group of ministers currently in the disaster-affected areas in Wayanad.
