Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall and ‘Kallakadal’ Phenomenon in Kerala

Date:

Thiruvananthapuram: The southwest monsoon has intensified in Kerala, leading to heavy rainfall across various parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for six districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. This alert signifies the possibility of heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

The IMD has further forecasted heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers across most parts of Kerala until July 5. Additionally, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has issued a warning regarding the ‘Kallakadal’ phenomenon along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu coast until 11:30 pm on Wednesday.

Due to these adverse weather conditions and rough seas, fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the sea off the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts until July 2. This caution is aimed at ensuring their safety amidst the prevailing weather conditions.
