Paris: Among the standout participants in the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony were the Indian athletes, who made a striking impression in tricolor-themed ceremonial attire. Men wore designer kurta Bundi sets while women donned elegant sarees, reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage. The Indian contingent, comprising 78 athletes and officials from 12 disciplines, was led by star shuttler P.V. Sindhu and five-time Olympian Sharath Kamal as the flagbearers.
Notable members of the Indian team include four-time Olympian archers Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, Tokyo Games bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain, and a talented group of shooters including Anjum Moudgil, Sift Kaur Samra, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, and Anish Bhanwala. Other prominent athletes include paddler Manika Batra and tennis player Rohan Bopanna.

With a contingent of 117 athletes, India aims to exceed its best-ever Olympic medal tally. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India secured seven medals—one gold, two silver, and four bronze. Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha and Chef-de-Mission Gagan Narang emphasized the importance of the athletes’ prominence in the Parade of Nations.
The grand opening ceremony, held on Friday, featured a stunning display with boats transporting athletes and dignitaries along six kilometers of the River Seine, witnessed by up to 300,000 spectators.
