Paris: The curtain will fall on the Paris Olympics today. With all of India’s events concluded the country has secured a total of six medals: one silver and five bronze. India did not win gold in any of the events. India ranks 71st in the Paris Olympics, down from 48th place in the Tokyo Olympics. Despite the four-year gap since Tokyo, India did not show significant improvement in many of the events in Paris.
This time, India had hoped for ten medals. The country won medals only in four events: shooting, hockey, wrestling, and javelin throw. If wrestler Vinesh Phogat wins a silver medal as expected, the total medal count will rise to seven. India will return from Paris without a gold medal. Neeraj Chopra, who won gold in javelin throw in Tokyo, has secured a silver medal this time. The Indian hockey team has maintained its silver medal from the previous Olympics. Additionally, Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, Swapnil Kusale, and Aman Sehrawat have also won medals.
Paris has prepared a grand closing ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 PM Indian time on Monday, held at the Stade de France in Paris. After the parade of nations, the Olympic flag will be handed over to Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Olympics. Legendary goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh and historic female shooting star Manu Bhaker, who won two silver medals in shooting, will carry the Indian flag.
