12 New Members Elected Unopposed to Rajya Sabha; NDA Gains 11 Seats, Boosting Its Strength

New Delhi: Twelve new members have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha. Of these, 11 are from the ruling NDA and one from the Congress. Among the 11 NDA members, nine represent the BJP. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, 10 Rajya Sabha members won. The newly elected members have been chosen for seats vacated in Telangana and Odisha following legislative assembly elections.

Among the NDA members elected to the Rajya Sabha are Union Ministers George Kurian and Ranveer Singh Bittu. George Kurian has been elected from Madhya Pradesh, while Ranveer Singh Bittu has been elected from Rajasthan. Ranveer Singh Bittu is replacing KC Venugopal, who won from Alappuzha. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been elected from Telangana.

Other BJP members elected to the Rajya Sabha include Ranjan Das, Rameshwar Teli (Assam), Manan Kumar Mishra (Bihar), Kiran Chaudhary (Haryana), Dhairyashil Patil (Maharashtra), Mamata Mohant (Odisha), and Rajeev Bhattacharya (Tripura). Nitin Patil (Maharashtra) from the NCP (Ajit Pawar) and Upendra Kushwaha (Bihar) from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha have also been elected to the Rajya Sabha as part of the NDA.

With the election of these 11 NDA members, the number of NDA MPs in the Rajya Sabha has increased to 115. Out of the total 237 seats in the Rajya Sabha, 119 are needed for a majority. Four seats in Jammu & Kashmir are currently vacant.

The increase in NDA members in the Rajya Sabha will support the BJP in passing several bills, including the Wakf Bill. The BJP currently has 96 members in the Rajya Sabha, while the Congress has 27.
