Arvind Kejriwal Challenges Delhi High Court’s Ruling on CBI Arrest in SC

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court order that upheld his arrest by the CBI in the Delhi liquor policy corruption case.

Kejriwal was first arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 concerning the liquor policy case. While in Tihar Jail, the CBI recorded his arrest on June 26. On July 12, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in the ED case, but he could not be released from jail because he did not secure bail in the CBI case.

Kejriwal approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail in the CBI case, but his petition was rejected. The court advised him to approach the trial court for bail. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna clarified that the arrest could not be termed illegal.

The CBI has accused Kejriwal of conspiracy in the liquor policy corruption case. The agency’s charge sheet claims that the Aam Aadmi Party received a bribe of ₹100 crore through this corruption, and illegal transactions worth ₹1,100 crore took place in the case.
