Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan has requested P.V. Anwar to withdraw candidates for the Palakkad and Chelakkara by-elections. This request comes in light of the UDF’s decision. Satheesan urged Anwar to oppose both the CPI(M) and the BJP in the fight against fascism. He emphasized the need for Anwar to take a stand against the anti-people policies of the CPI(M) government as well as the fascist policies of the BJP by withdrawing DMK candidates and supporting UDF candidates.
The request is based on the belief that if DMK candidates remain in the fray, the anti-BJP and anti-CPI(M) votes could get split. This move suggests that the UDF views Anwar as a crucial factor in the elections.
Notably, Anwar has called for a common candidate from the India alliance to contest against the BJP in Palakkad, stating that with a candidate from the India alliance, victory in Palakkad would be assured. The UDF candidate for Palakkad is Rahul Mankoot, while Dr. P. Sarin is contesting as an independent candidate supported by the CPI(M).
Anwar confirmed to the media that discussions with the UDF have taken place. He stated that both direct and indirect communications have occurred, and discussions regarding the UDF’s request will continue, with a decision to be made after further consultations.
