Thiruvananthapuram: Following the announcement of the by-election dates, the Congress party has announced its candidates. The candidates announced include those for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, as well as the Chellakkara and Palakkad legislative assembly constituencies. In Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi will contest, while in Palakkad, Rahul Mankootathil will represent the Youth Congress, and Ramya Haridas, the former UDF MP from Alakkode, will contest in Chellakkara.
Wayanad is a Lok Sabha constituency that gained national attention with Rahul Gandhi’s involvement. After winning in both Rae Bareli and Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi chose to represent Rae Bareli, leaving Wayanad. It was previously announced that Priyanka Gandhi would be the UDF candidate in his place.
The by-election in Palakkad has been prompted by MLA Shafi Parambil’s victory from the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency. Rahul Mankootathil’s name has been considered for Palakkad with a focus on securing a win. Following the candidate announcement, celebrations began among Rahul’s family and party workers.
The by-election in Chellakkara has also been set in motion due to K. Radhakrishnan’s victory in the Alakkode Lok Sabha constituency. Ramya Haridas had previously reduced Radhakrishnan’s majority in the Lok Sabha elections, and the UDF is attempting to capitalize on this favorable opportunity.
