Kochi: Following the release of the Hema Committee report and in light of a sexual harassment allegation raised by an actress in Kochi, Congress leader and lawyer V.S. Chandrasekharan has resigned from his party responsibilities. He stated that he took moral responsibility for the allegations. Chandrasekharan resigned from his positions as the Chairman of the KPCC Legal Aid Cell and the State President of the Lawyers Congress. He submitted his resignation letter to KPCC President K. Sudhakaran. Yesterday, Chandrasekharan had responded to the allegations, claiming they were false. He stated that he had never traveled with the actress in a car and that the allegations were politically motivated. Chandrasekharan also mentioned that he had informed the KPCC leadership of the situation and vowed to end both his public and professional life if the allegations were proven true.
Meanwhile, a group of female advocates from the High Court, led by Adv. Sareena George and about fifteen others, came forward on Wednesday, demanding that Chandrasekharan be removed from all positions. The female lawyers submitted a complaint to the KPCC leadership, urging a special investigation by the party, in addition to the police inquiry, to uncover the truth due to the serious nature of the allegations against Chandrasekharan. They also filed a complaint with the State Police Chief, requesting the registration of a case. As a result, the Congress leadership was under pressure.
The actress revealed that Chandrasekharan attempted to sexually assault her while taking her to see the shooting location at Bolgatty Palace and that she was handed over to another person afterward. The actress has also made allegations against Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edavela Babu, and production controllers Noble and Vichu.
