New Delhi: The Congress-National Conference alliance has secured power in Jammu and Kashmir, currently holding 52 seats. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has won both contested seats. Discussions with independents regarding government formation have already commenced between the Congress-NC alliance. In a surprising turn, Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter, Iltija Mufti, who is also a former Chief Minister, faced a significant defeat in the Kanniankal constituency. This is the first legislative assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir in ten years, following the revocation of its special status. The region has 90 legislative assembly seats, and the elections, held in three phases, recorded a voter turnout of 63.45%.
