Palakkad: In the by-elections, the LDF is fielding Dr. P. Sarin as an independent candidate in the Palakkad constituency, and his roadshow received a grand welcome. A large crowd, including party workers, gathered to welcome Sarin. During the roadshow heading to Kottamaithani, workers displayed placards reading “Sarin Bro” and waved red flags. Sarin told Asianet News that he is seeing a change in the commitment among the workers. “People are recognizing that this is not politics of mob rule. When a political decision is made, they understand how to hold onto it. This is what politics is,” Sarin said.
He emphasized that the struggle is not personal but ideological. “This is a rally to announce how the people of Palakkad, who have been broken and defeated, can make a comeback,” Sarin added.
Following a dispute over the seat, Sarin, who left Congress, was announced by CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan as the independent candidate of the Left Front. The district secretariat unanimously accepted Sarin’s candidacy. Sarin’s rift with Congress arose with the announcement of candidates for the Palakkad Assembly elections. After Rahul Mamkoottathil was declared the Congress candidate, Sarin turned against the party. He had demanded a revision of the candidate list. Sarin’s name was also included in the list of potential candidates from Congress for Palakkad.
