Final Tributes Paid to CPI(M) Leader Sitaram Yechury at JNU

Date:

New Delhi: The body of the late CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury was brought to JNU this evening around four o’clock, where a final tribute was paid. During the public viewing held at the student union office in the university, students of JNU, former students, Yechury’s peers, and political leaders paid their last respects.

Yechury, who was one of the most prominent political leaders in the country and a stalwart of CPI(M), took his first political steps at JNU. The beloved leader was bid farewell with the sentiment that the soil he loved would never forget him and that he would live on forever. Throughout the public viewing, students chanted the slogan “This is Sitaram’s JNU” with clenched fists.

At around 5:30, the public viewing at the campus concluded, and the body was taken to Yechury’s residence in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. It will remain there for public viewing throughout the night. On Saturday morning, at 10 a.m., the body will be moved to the party headquarters office at AKG Bhavan. Yechury’s office had been operating from there for the past thirty years. After the public viewing on Saturday, the body will be taken in a funeral procession to AIIMS and will be donated for medical students’ studies.
