Thiruvananthapuram: UDF retains the Wayanad Parliament constituency and Palakkad assembly constituency By-elections. In Wayanad, UDF’s Priyanka Gandhi won with a majority of over four lakh votes. Rahul Mankoottil emerged victorious in the Palakkad constituency, securing the highest majority in the fiercely contested triangular battle.

Following her brother, Priyanka climbed the Wayanad peak, and the people of that region embraced her. Priyanka secured a dream majority of 4,08,036 votes. Priyanka’s debut performance surpassed the majority won by her brother, Rahul Gandhi, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This marks the second-highest majority in Wayanad’s history.

In Palakkad, the highest majority until now was the 17,483 votes won by Shafi in 2016. Rahul surpassed this record with a majority of 18,840 votes in the legislative assembly contest. In the previous battle against Metro Man, Shafi won by just 3,859 votes. In 2011, Shafi’s initial victory in the constituency was with a majority of 7,403 votes. Despite a tough triangular contest, Rahul’s victory with a majority four times higher than before stands out as a remarkable achievement.
