Thrissur: U.R. Pradeep Kumar will be the LDF candidate from Chelakkara. An official decision regarding this will be made on Saturday. This will be Pradeep Kumar’s second attempt to seek the people’s mandate from Chelakkara, having previously won and served in the assembly in 2016. The need for a by-election in Chelakkara arose after K. Radhakrishnan resigned following his election to the Lok Sabha from Alathur. K. Radhakrishnan has represented Chelakkara five times. CPM district secretary M.M. Varghese stated that the LDF is confident of winning with a significant majority this time as well.
The UDF has previously announced Ramya Haridas as its candidate. The BJP candidate will also be announced in the coming days. Chelakkara constituency was formed in 1965 and includes nine panchayats: Chelakkara, Kondazhi, Thiruvilwamala, Pazhayannur, Panjal, Vallathol Nagar, Mullurkara, Desamangalam, and Varavur.
